Lifelong Learning
As the largest synagogue in Portland, Congregation Neveh Shalom takes seriously its responsibility to be the leading provider of Jewish educational programming for all ages. Our beloved Foundation School has served thousands of students in our community for over 50 years with early childhood education for children ages 2-5. Our K-12 education programs, known as ALIYAH, enable member families to begin and sustain their children's Jewish and Hebrew education with a variety of unique and effective Saturday, Sunday and weekday programs, including our Bar/Bat Mitzvah program and Tichon High School program on Wednesday evenings. Teens have opportunities for youth leadership through our USY Youth group and leadership training as assistants (madrichim) in our ALIYAH programs for younger students.
Kochavim (Stars) provides an extra-curricular Hebrew language immersion experience for our children ages 3-8 while Notz'tzim (Sparkles) is a tot-parent program using music and movement to introduce Hebrew language and Jewish themes. See more about Kochavim & Notz'tzim here.
Our Adult Education program is flourishing, with a wide range of topics taught by our clergy team and professional staff, as well as visiting scholars - from a comprehensive Hebrew skills course (Machon Ivrit) to a new Learner's Minyan to Talmud study and the History of Israel.
