Monday, March 24, 2008 8:29 pmParshat Hashavua: Tsav (Leviticus 6:1-8:36)
The first Parashah in Leviticus outlined the various types of offerings. This week's reading opens with the specifics rituals that were to attend each of these offerings. Except for the Olah/burnt offering, these offerings were eaten by the Kohanim and/or the individual who would bring the offering for sacrifice.
The remainder of the Parasha details the religious rites that were to mark the initiation of formal worship, i.e. the consecration of the Kohanim and the Tabernacle into service. Our parashah describes the first seven days of this procedure, culminating in the final eighth day with which our reading begins next week.
